Polyquaternium-7 is a water-soluble, cationic copolymer of acrylamide and the quaternary ammonium salt diallyldimethylammonium chloride . As a cationic polyelectrolyte, it carries a positive charge that provides excellent substantivity to the negatively charged surfaces of hair and skin .

In haircare, it is a highly effective conditioning and anti-static agent, significantly improving wet and dry combability, reducing frizz and flyaways, and imparting a soft, silky, and glossy finish without causing buildup . It also contributes to rich, creamy foam in shampoos and shower gels . In skincare, it forms a water-locking film that provides moisturization and leaves the skin feeling smooth and soft, making it ideal for cleansers, lotions, and body washes
